Leaders in Action

Leaders in Action (LIA) is an innovative 6-month training, coaching and action learning program designed to support frontline leaders step into their leadership capacity fully.

I designed the program after noticing the pattern of how often technical professionals (in all sectors) were promoted to leadership positions with little formal leadership skill development to ensure their success in their new role.

Testimonials

“Julie worked closely with me in my role as Director of Frontline Leaders Enabling Care. We worked with a group of frontline leaders to design 6 summits of over 200 healthcare staff each time. Not only did Julie lead the strategic design of these amazing summits, she also facilitated the full day sessions. The series of 3 summits built on each other to transform how care is provided by engaging the frontline leaders. She facilitated conversations that needed to occur in the system, through partnering with the client, so measurable results were achieved. What I admire most about Julie is her ability to read the audience, make adjustments on the fly when facilitating and closes the loop with a comprehensive report that demonstrates outcomes that were achieved. Julie always demonstrated great energy and sense of humour which endear her to all she meets. From Executive level in Fraser Health to frontline staff, I have witnessed her ability to be genuine and successful in achieving results for her clients. I would recommend her highly.”

Carol McGrandles, Director, Leadership and Seamless Care, Fraser Health

“When I joined the organization it did not have a strategic plan so one of my priorities was to develop one. I retained Julie to assist us in that process. Everyone on our board was very impressed with her - with her personal warmth, her knowledge of the health sector, and her ability to synthesize issues and to ask thoughtful questions that got us to the heart of a matter. She also made things fun! We were so impressed that we retained her again the following year, as well as for a strategic planning session for our national group.”

Kyong-ae Kim LL.B, Executive Director/Registrar College of Registered, Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia

“I just wanted to let you know how thoroughly impressed and happy I am with the facilitation you have provided my teams over the years. Your professionalism and skill from the inception of the idea to the execution on the day has been exemplary and professional. Your facilitation and leadership far exceeds other consultants I have worked with in the past. Nothing ever seems to be too much trouble to you and I am made to feel valuable and unique. Your work with my teams has lead to improved team function and greater clarity of our unified purpose.

Welman Lee, Director Clinical Programs Renal Services, Fraser Health Authority

“Julie is one of the best facilitators (if not the best!) I have ever worked with. Prior to facilitating, Julie takes the time to get to know the needs, issues, and dynamics of the group as well as the deliverables, and then skillfully facilitates the group process in a fun and engaging way. I have seen Julie work with a number of teams in various stages of growth and cohesion (including significant conflict) and she is a hugely valuable resource to teams / groups in all stages of development. The last event Julie facilitated for us was invaluable in eliciting information and gaining consensus on planning for future directions, and I look forward to working with her in the future.

Sue Murphy, Education Director Department of Physical Therapy, University of British Columbia

“Our association contracted Julie Hamilton for a weekend planning session. She was well organized, an excellent facilitator, and in a condensed time frame was able to help our Board of Directors focus and develop a targeted, meaningful strategic plan. Of particular note was that she was able to evoke creativity from the group itself, never monopolizing or dictating outcomes. We presented her with broad objectives and she was able to organize our time productively, challenge our preconceptions, and ultimately provide us with measurable outcomes that resulted in tangible benefits for our association. I would highly recommend her skills, expertise and action-based approach to planning and organization.”
