How would you describe your consulting style and why should I choose you?
Firstly, I listen to understand your needs. I partner with my clients to collaboratively create the strategy that will help you succeed. I do this by bringing my strategic thinking and experience to identify what organizational change or leadership development strategy will address those needs. My clients say they appreciate how I ask powerful questions to identify the needs and wants they have, and reveal any “blind spots” they may have! You can depend on me to be direct in my communication, follow through on commitments and provide a great working relationship.
If there is one philosophy running throughout all your work, what is it?
The Appreciative Inquiry and strengths based philosophy. I so believe in David Cooperrider and the whole appreciative inquiry practice, the essence of which is, that wherever we spend our energy grows. So, if we spend our time focusing on what isn’t working, in a team or organization, that will grow; if we focus on what is working, in a team or organization, that will grow.
In every conversation I have with clients and with teams, I bring that appreciative inquiry focus, “Tell me about what is working in your team or organization”. I believe that when we first focus on what is working, we can engage our teams by highlighting their contribution to organizational strengths, we use those insights to address and resolve any business concerns or issues much more effectively.
What is the one thing that will help my team or organization be successful?
I believe that the key to organizational and cultural strength, is making the commitment to have the authentic conversations that matter at every level in the organization, every day. This is equally important for the C Suite level of leaders, as it is for engaging the frontline leaders and staff in creating a successful future. Today, organizations have to adapt quickly to the complexity of changing needs in the marketplace, whether it be public, private or not for profit and it is essential to engage all your talented people in contribution. The other thing is the importance of maintaining a sense of humour, while navigating the challenges of the ever-changing organization.
What is important to you?
My family and friends, reading first novels, keeping fit, making a positive contribution, laughter, kindness, learning, dancing
Is your accent Irish or Scottish?
I come from Bangor, County Down – so I am Irish, however, I studied in Edinburgh and so some listeners hear a Scottish lilt! I visit my family often in Ireland to top up my accent.
